Last StandColony survival strategy

Keep your colony alive for a thousand days.

You have a small colony: a few huts, a low wall and five people you know by name. A raid every night, an impossible choice every week. You have to last a thousand days.

Night screen: the colony’s defence against that night’s raid
Last Stand: a grown, walled colony on day 900

Work by day, defend by night

An idle pair of hands is a hungry mouth. A hungry colony does not work, and a colony that does not work does not see the night through.

  • Who does what

Fields, well, building, watch, infirmary, scouting. Output depends not only on skill but on morale and health.

  • The night wave

First wild animals, then bandits, the infected and worse. The wave grows every night, and every 25th one comes far heavier.

  • Four seasons

Winter kills the fields and eats the firewood. Curing, insulation and storehouses are how you get ready.

  • 17 buildings, 14 studies

From curing to antibiotics, from a trap line to a reinforced wall. The last study, drills, can be repeated again and again.

  • Nine regions

Send teams out: they bring resources, find new places, sometimes come back with a new person, and sometimes come back short.

  • The memorial

The ones you lose are buried in the graveyard and their names stay on the memorial. The colony’s history builds up line by line.

Survivor card: health, morale, skills, traits and bonds

Faces, not numbers

Everyone in the colony has a name, an age, skills, traits and bonds with the others. When someone dies you do not lose a row in a table; the people who knew them lose heart.

  • Health, morale and hunger
  • Skills, traits and bonds
  • A history for every survivor
Event screen: a stranger at the gate and three choices

Choices come back

Do you let the stranger through the gate? Lock the store? Help the fever camp? Every choice has a visible cost, and some of them knock on your door weeks later.

  • 43 events, 94 choices
  • You see the cost before you choose
  • Your people take sides
Scouting map: regions to send a team to

Nine regions, one crew

Send a crew anywhere from the North Wood to the Ruined Town. Every region has its own risk and reward, and scouting reveals new ones.

  • Risk and reward shown up front
  • Metal, meds, food, water and wood
  • Sometimes they bring back a survivor
